Confidence is a big skill developed throughout our lifetimes. We help others to build their confidence further by letting them explore new interests, develop their skills in school, and much more. Here are some ways you can raise a confident child.

Explore plenty of extracurricular activities

A range of activities, both extracurricular and for enrichment purposes, will allow your child to feel that they can build up their skills in areas that they enjoy. If your child has particular interests, like for example they enjoy cooking and baking, then develop this further by taking them to a cooking group or explore additional subjects they can pick up in school. Work with what makes your child happy – an easy aspect to focus on – that will allow them to find what will keep them inspired and motivated.

Teach your child about responsibility

Being responsible means that your child begins to learn about ways they can make a difference, both in the outside world and in what you ask of them. This often starts with giving your child chores or requiring your child to tidy up their bedroom once a week. There’s a lot your child can pick up from developing their skills in working within their means, as well as helping your child know what makes them confident in their own abilities.

Help your child with their strengths

Being strong and determined makes things a lot easier for your child to pick up the skills they want to invest their time and energy into. That alone will give your child plenty of confidence, and it also means that they are applying what they know to better themselves on an academic level as well. Confidence tends to shine through naturally at times, especially when your child is looking at how far they’ve come through what they know they’re good at.

Give your child the means to work things out on their own

This often comes with getting your child to solve different problems, but it also means that your child is having the opportunity to build on skills they already have and how they can be used in different ways. Solving problems together from a young age can help facilitate this early on, especially when they come across different issues throughout their lives. Over time, leaving your child to their own devices helps a lot more than stepping in every time they seem to need help.
