Do you lie awake playing games and get bored of the same games on your phone? If you are looking for games to play when you can’t sleep then there are lots available on Plays with new games added most days you are sure to find something to suit you. Firstly though here are my tips for finding the best games to play when you can’t sleep and which to avoid.

Types of games to play when you can’t sleep
When you are trying to sleep it is easy to have other things going through your mind, whether that be the work you need to do the following day or even whether penguins have knees it is easy to end up keeping yourself awake with these things on your mind.
Using a technique called cognitive shuffling can help you to fall asleep. Instead of thinking about what you need to do or getting busy searching whether birds sleep or penguins have knees, you should play word games. The kind with random words and pictures are the best, nothing too taxing on your brain but enough to put random words and images into your mind.
To do cognitive shuffling the most effectively you should just lie thinking of different words beginning with one letter, all short words under 5 letters long, and for each word picture it eg the letter D think of words like a drink, dad, doll etc and for each word picture that item/person before moving on to the next.
Games on your phone and sleep
The best games to choose from on a site like Plays are word games and repetitive games. They need to be quite slow-moving so they do not arouse you more. For example, fast-moving coloured bricks (Tetra blocks for example) can be just too involved and keep you awake longer. Save games like that for mid-afternoon when you are sleepy after a poor night sleep and need to wake up a bit!
Everyone is different and will find that different games are perfect for them when they can’t sleep. I love Waffle and found it just right for helping keep my mind occupied enough but not so much so that I couldn’t get tired. There is an image above of my game that I am sure will tempt you to play it too. It is essentially a little like a Word search where you find as many words as possible!

Why games help you sleep
The reality is our minds often can not sleep because we are too active, mentally, and we are keeping ourselves up thinking of things we shouldn’t be thinking about. Games are a perfect way of giving us something to think about however nothing too important that it stops us from sleeping.
What games do you play when you can’t sleep? Have you checked out the ones I shared above? Can you see the difference in why Tetra blocks isn’t good for sleep but Waffle is? Do comment below and let me know what you think.
