We learn by asking questions and it’s also how we make friends and build relationships with those around us. Children are born curious and from as young as a few months old, they try to learn about the world around them using their senses.
As they grow up it’s important that you continue to nurture their inquisitive side. It will fuel their desire to learn and in turn make them smarter. To help your child develop and grow their curiosity, here are some tips that we’ve put together with a private school in Surrey.
Nurture Their Curiosity
As children get older, they begin to ask more questions. While you may not know the answer, it’s important that they aren’t ignored or shut down. Take it upon yourself to find out together and nurture their curiosity.
Don’t Lie
Whatever you do, it’s important that you don’t lie and are honest with your child. While they come to you for answers, it’s okay not to have them. In fact, it presents the perfect opportunity for you to figure things out together. It will also show your child that there’s no embarrassment to it and that they can learn at any age.
Ask Them Questions
To bring out their curiosity, you can start by asking your child questions. See their take on things and push them to do their own research and find out. Setting them off on these mini-tasks could help them to develop a love for learning and help strengthen their general knowledge of the world around them.
Open-Ended Questions
Also, when asking your child questions, leave them open to interpretation. Open-ended questions require more thought and can prompt them to think deeper, as opposed to just responding with a one-worded answer.
See The Sights
Another option is to take your child out. Broaden their horizons and expose them to new sights and experiences that tickle their curiosity. It’s a fun way of learning and particularly good if your child’s kinaesthetic. As a fun day out, you may choose to visit a museum, exhibition, or a farm even.
Games to Boost Their Curiosity
To keep their brain active and their curiosity entertained, you can also introduce them to games like sudoku. Even if they haven’t got the faintest idea, they can research and work their way through.
